College Credit-**TIME SENSITIVE INFORMATION!!**

**COLLEGE CREDIT REGISTRATION**
Oceans can be taken for college credit as Stony Brook University's MAR 104-E: Oceanography. and Marine Ecology can be taken for college credit as Stony Brook University's MAR 101-E: Long Island Sound: Science and Use, respectively.  These are  three credit courses and cost $300 each (normal tuition is $1166.40, so this is quite a discount). In order to take either course for college credit, you must have a cumulative GPA of 2.40 or better. See Ms. Williams to see if you qualify. If for any reason you wish to withdrawal from the Stony Brook course, you must follow all of Stony Brook University's dates and procedures and the $300 is not refundable. Smithtown High School and Stony Brook University cannot guarantee that the college in which you enroll will accept these credits. Please check with any potential colleges prior to enrollment. Your grade for this course will become part of your permanent SUNY academic record.

Registration is on line, however, you will need to print the Program Approval Form SUNY Stony Brook will send you, which will need my signature to allow you to actually be registered for the class. Even if you have done everything else online, your registration is NOT complete without my signature. Once you print the Program Approval Form, complete your part and submit it to me no later than the date provided in your Google Classroom   in order for me to finish processing it. In addition, please bring in your payment receipt or forward the email receipt from Stony Brook so I have proof that your payment went through. I will deliver all of the signed forms to Stony Brook by the due date.

Please click here to register and for more information about Stony Brook University's Accelerated College Education Program. NOTE!!! Despite what it says on Stony Brook's website, my deadline for you to complete your on line application and submit payment is the date provided by your teacher. I cannot guarantee time for processing your application if you hand it in late! Remember, I'm on field trips with other classes during this time of year, so don't wait until the last minute and chance being disappointed when I'm not in the building to help you!

Please see Ms. Williams with questions.

Field Trips

Field trips provide hands on experiences that are an essential part of this course. Students are expected to attend each one of the 4 separate field research trips and to participate appropriately while on the trips. An alternate assignment will be made available for students who are not able to attend a particular trip, but students are still responsible for content covered in class that is reinforced on the trips.

It is the student's responsibility to inform all of their teachers BEFORE the field trip. You are responsible for getting and completing all assignments you miss as a result of the field trip. We WILL likely go on field trips even if it is raining, except in severe circumstances. If there is inclement weather on the day of a field trip, please listen for announcements or contact Ms. Williams. If a field trip is cancelled you are responsible for any work, for any of your classes that is due that day.

Filled-out, signed permission slips must be handed in by the date requested by Ms. Williams. As some trips have limited space, students will be allowed to go on trips based on the order in which permission slips are received.  If you do not go on a field trip, you are required to attend class with a substitute teacher and complete an alternate assignment.

Ms. Williams reserves the right to exclude a student from a field trip because of behavioral or academic issues in this or another teacher's class. In consideration of the safety and security of all of our students and staff, only those who can successfully represent Smithtown while in the classroom and school building will be asked to participate in our field research at this time.

For all field trips, please bring a picture ID, lunch, water and sunscreen. Do not bring inappropriate materials. On all trips you must wear close-toed, comfortable shoes (i.e., sneakers or boots) that can get dirty and wet. You will not be allowed to go on the trip in sandals or flip flops. Wearing layers is highly recommended.
